Are You A Mystic? – Seeking The Soul Of Christian Mysticism

2) …and have to be translated from the original language (even if it was technically English)?
3) Are your heroes and roles models all dead (but always with you in spirit)?
4) Can you say “have a blessed day” with a straight face?
5) Do you have have the tendency to fold your hands, close your eyes, and nod slowly when listening to others?

What the Bleep Do We Know!?… Apparently, Not Much.

What The Bleep Do We KnowI finally got to sit down and watch What the Bleep Do We Know!?, which I was interested in seeing but eluded me for a while (not many art theaters in the Bible Belt). After seeing the movie I was pretty disappointed. I was interested in the movie because I was hoping they were going to show how quantum mechanics demonstrates low little we know about the Universe. Instead, it was just a sales trick for cult weirdos who think they have all the answers. Continue Reading »

Hell, Yeah! …and other thoughts about Eternity.

Animanacs in Hell

Religion may be becoming more and more unpopular, but Hell is considered downright offensive. The mere mention of Hell, especially an acknowledgement of its existence, can make anyone sound like a radical or religious “wacko”. Even among many Christian mystics I read or speak too, the old idea of a Hell, with it’s fire, menacing demons, creative-yet-nightmarish torments, and malevolent overlord seems rather antiquated. A black-and-white “do or die” eternal judgement bothers all but the most narrow-minded of casual philosophers. Despite all this, I do believe in Hell, and I think the current absurdities surrounding the Heaven and Hell mindset is caused by our own lack of understand and depth. Continue Reading »
